Working at both the IC architecture and circuit level using deep sub-micron CMOS to design future generation synthesiser sub-systems for multi-standard radios.   The role will be primarily for a circuit designer/silicon architect focussing on high performance frequency synthesis. The goal is to deliver leading edge / breakthrough performance in terms of key metrics such as phase noise, spurious performance and lock time while meeting aggressive power dissipation targets.  You will have a good understanding of a range of techniques for frequency synthesis including non-linear (constant envelope/polar) modulators, sigma-delta techniques as well as emerging digitally intensive approaches.   You will work closely with system engineers on the optimisation of the system and specification of frequency synthesis blocks.   You will be a strong team player able to operate as both an innovator and an implementer. You will participate in multi-site developments across different time zones and cultures requiring excellent written and verbal communication skills.   Experience of synthesiser design including overall architecture development and key circuits for fully integrated designs. An analytical approach is desired with a clear track record of success and delivery.   You will have a good understanding of synthesiser architectures (e.g. fractional-M, integer-N, multi-loop designs) as well as understanding the RF system requirements for cellular systems. Experience in analysis and modelling of synthesiser systems would be beneficial (e.g. Matlab/Simulink).   You will also have a strong record of innovation demonstrated through product performance, patents or other publications. This would show you to be a genuine “practical innovator” capable of delivering break through new technology within a commercial environment.   Experience with the Cadence Analog Design Environment is essential and experience with advanced simulation tools (e.g.  Verilog-AMS, Matlab) is strongly desirable. In this role you will work on the specification, architecture design, circuit design and implementation of key analog and RF circuit blocks for next generation multi-standard radios in deep sub-micron CMOS.  The role will be for a circuit designer with an interest in a variety of high performance analog and RF blocks such as LNAs, mixers, drivers, VCOs, PLLs, baseband filters and power management blocks.   You will focus on delivering highly competitive analog blocks with leading edge performance using innovative architectures and circuit implementations.   You will have an excellent understanding of analog and RF CMOS circuit design and of analog IC layout in deep sub-micron CMOS technology and will provide direction and supervision for layout implementation. You will work closely with system engineers on the optimisation of the system and specification of analog blocks.  You will be a strong team player able to operate as both an innovator and an implementer. You will participate in multi-site developments across different time zones and cultures requiring excellent written and verbal communication skills.   Experience of designing high performance analogue and/or RF circuits in deep-submicron CMOS technology is essential. An strong analytical approach is desired with a clear track record of success and delivery.  Experience with the Cadence Analog Design Environment is essential and experience with advanced circuit simulation tools and EM simulation tools is a benefit (examples are Goldengate, SpectreRF and AMS Designer).
